Render Pending
Farah Sara Kurnik
Farah Sara Kurnik's work Render Pending revolves around issues of production conditions and the hard-to-bridge gap between creative potential and the reality of unfinished projects resulting from freelancing, keeping an online persona and juggling different projects at the same time.

The artist allows viewers to explore her fictional computer desktop, offering an insight into her working process, which is often characterised by overwork, lack of time, pressure from clients and her own dissatisfaction with the final product. The chaotic digging through folders of working versions, drafts and rough sketches, moodboards, notes, unanswered emails and missed deadlines, failed renderings, placeholder materials as well as her digital suicide note represents the other side of the creative process and raises the question of whether a work of art can ever really be finished and whether it can ever be realised in the way we have wanted.

With Render Pending, the artist continues her exploration of mechanisms and systems for the visual categorisation, systematisation and communication of certain contents, but this time turns her gaze introspectively from fictional speculative worlds to her own very personal process. She tries to distance herself from her work and leave it entirely to strangers, but remains trapped in the interface, present in the form of witty comments and humorous instructions. She invites us to help completing her work by answering emails or rendering 3D models, but we quickly get caught in a limbo of endless repetitive clicking. At some point we have to accept that the work will never really be finished - and that's okay.
