Z vpeljevanjem različnih teoretskih kontekstov razčlenjuje trenutne poglede na to tehnologijo, razne aspekte njenega delovanja in njeno vpetost v družbene in ekonomske strukture.

The video game Model Collapse, presented in the form of a visual narrative, challenges contemporary discourses surrounding artificial intelligence – from its glorification to those that see it as the cause of humanity’s downfall. By introducing various theoretical contexts, it analyses current perspectives on this technology, the various aspects of its operations, and its integration into social and economic structures.
Through an interactive chat room, you meet various characters with whom you engage in conversations, while your responses influence the story’s development. The virtual conversations are reminiscent of communication in once-popular online chat rooms, community forums, and dating simulators, while the corporate aesthetic takes a subversive approach to the minimalist design typical of the visual identities of major tech companies.
The work does not offer a single, definitive answer – each chatbot defends her own position, ranging from the dark forest theory of the internet, to anti-meme content, to the jailbreaking of large language models, and the debate over the singularity of artificial intelligence. The characters we encounter thus become personifications of various philosophical and theoretical positions, through which they break down popular technological clichés into different perspectives. In doing so, the artistic duo behind the game Lea Sande and Tisa Troha draw on their own previous theoretical research.
The Model Collapse serves as an interactive, visually stimulating presentation of the most intriguing theoretical currents that invite reflection on our relationship with artificial intelligence and its actual functionality and capabilities. Through various interactions, the player approaches the model of the collapse; in doing so, the work captures the tension within the discourse on artificial intelligence and reveals how human fears, illusions, and misconceptions are intertwined with it.
Lea Sande (2003) is a researcher, journalist and editor.
